Local ultra-marathon open water swimmer and artist Katie Pumphrey kicked off her 2025 open water swim season Thursday morning.

Last year, Pumphrey made history when she swam from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge into Baltimore’s Inner Harbor . She’s at it again after diving into the harbor as she sets her sights on the English Channel.

“First big swim was the English Channel in 2015, which I’ve done twice now and I’m getting ready for a third this coming July,” Pumphrey said.
