Colorado has more of a dinosaur history than you might imagine. The Longmont Museum's new exhibit will educate visitors on dinosaur discoveries within our very own state!
Through January 14, 2018, the Longmont Museum presents "Dinosaur Discoveries: Ancient Fossils, New Ideas," an exhibit that will explore recent findings in dinosaur biology and explain the new technological advancements that are affecting the study of fossils. In addition, Coloradans will love seeing the T-Rex bones that were discovered nearby in Littleton.When we go about setting up an interactive exhibit, we always want to make it as locally specific as possible," Joan Harrold, the museum's development manager told The Reporter Herald. "Displaying these fossils found from around Colorado was really important to us."The display includes both a femur and tooth from a T-Rex, as well as a soil sample linked to the destructive asteroid that may have eradicated dinosaurs from the earth. All of these were found locally. The fossils themselves were previously on display at the American Museum of Natural History in New York.
The exhibit is interactive, too, with touchable models and casts and state-of-the-art computer simulations. Kids will love digging in the excavating dig pit, dressing up in dinosaur costumes, designing their own dinosaur, and more. And because chickens are thought to be the descendants of dinosaurs, museum visitors will love feeding the live chickens on display, as well!
The Longmont Museum is located at 400 Quail Road, Longmont, CO 80501, and is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
