A Baltimore-based family-owned business is shutting its doors after almost 90 years of serving the outdoor enthusiast community. Princeton Sports announced they will be closing on Monday in a press release as the owners, Alan and Paul Davis are retiring. The two brothers were the third generation of their family to run the business, which was started by their grandparents, Samuel and Lucille Davis back in 1936. The store has offered its customers the top brands in skiing, snowboarding, biking, tennis, swimming, and fitness supplies. The business began renting bicycles for a nickel a day in Park Circle, Baltimore and expanded to two locations on Falls Road in Baltimore and one in Columbia. The Columbia location closed in 2018 and now the Falls Road store will close, after almost 50 years at that location. "This is the end of an extraordinary chapter in our family's history," said Paul Davis. "For nearly 90 years, our family has been able to sell fun to the Baltimore community. However, the retail landscape has changed dramatically over the years, people's buying habits have changed, making it difficult to operate in the way we once loved." The store will hold a retirement store closing sale starting, Feb. 8 at 10 a.m. All of the store's inventory, fixtures, and equipment will be sold.
