LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville police are conducting a death investigation after the driver of a car involved in a crash on Interstate 264 was found to have suffered a fatal gunshot wound. According to a MetroSafe supervisor, Louisville Metro Police were called just after 4:30 p.m. on Thursday to a crash in the eastbound lanes of I-264 near Breckenridge Lane. LMPD spokesman John Bradley said the driver of a vehicle lost control, flipped and hit two other vehicles. The driver died at the scene, but when officers arrived at the scene they discovered the driver had suffered a fatal gunshot wound. There is no information about where or when the driver had been shot, but Bradley said the driver was the only occupant in the vehicle. Drivers in the other two vehicles involved in the crash were not injured, but traffic on I-264 was snarled for hours. TRIMARC maps showed cars were at a standstill from Breckenridge Lane almost to Interstate 65 for the duration of rush hour. All lanes reopened about 7:45 p.m. with just the shoulder of the interstate blocked for the investigation. This story will be updated.
