LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Louisville women's basketball could not find enough consistent offense on the road at Virginia Tech, seeing a seven-game winning streak end with a 70-65 loss. The Cardinals shot a season-worst 11% from three and just 39% from the field, including 21% for the second half, to extend their losing streak in this conference series to four. Louisville head coach Jeff Walz has previously mentioned a need to improve from beyond the arc and hold opponents to worse shooting performances as a whole. Both of those areas proved to be issues in Blacksburg. First-year Virginia Tech head coach Megan Duffy, who replaced now Kentucky head coach Kenny Brooks, saw her team take two fewer threes, but hit 38% of them. On a day where the home team honored its greatest player in program history in Elizabeth Kitley, the Hokies shot an efficient 53% from the field while four different players scored in double figures. Transfer guard Ja'Leah Williams sparked a fourth quarter comeback effort that saw the Cardinals outscore the Hokies 20-12 in the final frame. Olivia Cochran, who led the Cards with 14 points and eight rebounds, pushed Louisville to outwork Virginia Tech for 17 offensive rebounds. Fellow veteran Merissah Russell was key too, adding four rebounds on the offensive glass. The backcourt duo of Jayda Curry and Tajianna Roberts came up with some clutch shots late, but struggled to carry the offensive load. They combined to score 20 points and shoot 6 of 24 from the field, with Curry accounting for 17 of those shots.
