RICHMOND, Maine — Officials have closed a section of Main Street in Richmond Tuesday morning due to a propane leak.

The road is closed from the Exit 43 Quik Stop gas station at 712 Main Street to Enterprise Farms at 467 Main Street, according to an alert from the Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office.

Sagadahoc County dispatch told NEWS CENTER Maine the Richmond Fire Department is active at the scene.

As of 7:35 a.m. Tuesday, officials said the road would remain closed for the foreseeable future, and drivers in the area should use an alternative route.

The sheriff's office said it has alerted and called businesses and residents in the area.

Officials said more information would be provided after the scene is clear and the road has been reopened.
