At 7:35 p.m. May 6, officers were called to a home on Ledgehill Lane on a report that the residents’ son was trying to break into their home.

Officers arrived to find the suspect still present. Police detained the man, who offered no explanation for what was happening.

Police then spoke to his father, 57, and mother, 59.

They reported that their son had threatened them during previous outbursts.

They stated that when they wouldn’t let him in the house on this day, he began to break in the back door by smashing the glass with a rock.

They reported that he then threatened them.

Officers arrested the suspect, 23, of Solon, and brought him to the Solon Jail.

He was charged with domestic violence. No injuries were reported.

At 4:10 p.m. May 5, a Solon man, 78, reported a scam.

He told officers that he had received a pop-up message from PayPal on his computer. The message stated that there was suspicious activity on his PayPal account.

A phone number to contact for help to clear up the problem was provided to the man.

When he logged into his account, he found a payment request for $999. The man called the phone number and was told that the payment request was a scam and a computer virus.

The victim was directed to give remote access to his computer, then log into his PayPal account.

Somewhere in this process the victim noticed that his bank account, which is linked to the PayPal account, had been credited with $25,000 from an unknown source.

He was then informed by the fake tech support person that he would need to return that money via bitcoin.

He withdrew $25,000 cash from his bank account, drove to a gas station on Rockside Road and deposited the cash into a bitcoin machine.

He later checked his bank account and saw that he was now in the negative for $25,000, as the scammer had deposited insufficient funds into the man’s account.

The victim appears to be at a loss for the $25,000.

At 4:45 p.m. May 6, officers went to a home on Brainard Road in response to a dispute involving a vehicle being towed.

A Garfield Heights woman had gone to the home to drop off her daughter. The home is that of the woman’s ex-husband, who is the child’s father.

The woman went to the house accompanied by a tow truck and driver to attempt to remove a vehicle that was parked there.

The former husband, 51, argued with the woman about having the car towed.

He mentioned to officers that the woman was actually not supposed to be at the house because he has a protection order against her.

After the tow truck driver left without taking the car, the validity of the protection order was confirmed.

Police arrested the woman, 54, for violation of a protection order.

As it turned out, her vehicle was towed away by police for safekeeping.

At 11:50 a.m. May 7, a Solon man, 73, went to the police station to report that in April, someone from “KC Roofing” came to his Allenbury Drive house and offered to inspect his roof for possible storm damage.

He accepted the offer and was told that there was, in fact, shingle damage.

No repairs were made, but the victim called his insurance company to file a claim.

The insurance company inspected the damage and told the victim they were denying the claim because the damage was man-made.

There was suspicion that someone had intentionally caused the damage, although the victim did not state that he suspected the roofing contractor.

The victim required a police report in order to resubmit an insurance claim as “vandalism.”

Police have no leads in the case.

At 5:35 p.m. May 7, a witness called police to report that they were following an erratic driver.

It was reported that while following the red Hyundai Elantra, the witness saw the car strike another car in Bedford Heights, then drive away.

The car continued to head east on Cannon Road, from Richmond Road. It struck the wall of a railroad tunnel and a mailbox while in Solon.

The witness reported that the driver and passenger then switched positions in the car somewhere near the Orange border.

Solon and Orange officers caught up to the vehicle on Brainard Road near Harvard Road and conducted a traffic stop.

Solon officers spoke to the original driver and noticed that he slurred his speech, had bloodshot eyes, smelled of an alcoholic beverage and appeared to be confused.

Police arrested the man, 21, for suspected OVI. He completed and failed field sobriety tests at the Solon Jail.

A breath test showed that he had a blood-alcohol content of .335, well above the state minimum for drunk driving of .08.

Police additionally charged the Woodmere man with having a prohibited BAC and failure to control.

The person driving at the time of the traffic stop was also arrested, by Orange police, also for OVI.

Bedford Heights police completed a crash report.

At 11:15 p.m. May 7, an officer stopped a black Audi traveling on northbound Harper Road near U.S. 422 for speeding and an illegal window tint.

The officer spoke to the woman driving the car, as well as three passengers.

The officer noticed the smell of suspected burnt marijuana in the car and saw a suspected marijuana blunt on the center console.

The occupants were asked to step out of the car and were detained.

The driver denied smoking marijuana in the car. The officer conducted a search and located two loaded semi-automatic weapons in the vehicle.

Two men were seated in the back seat next to one of the guns. They were detained and taken to jail so that police could conduct a more thorough investigation.

After taking the men to the jail for questioning, the officer reviewed his car recording and heard one of the men discussing the weapon, then hiding bullets in the back of the police car.

Officers charged that man, 65, of Garfield Heights, with tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony; having weapons under disability, also a third-degree felony; and improper handling of a firearm, a felony of the fourth degree.

The driver, a Cleveland woman, 51, was arrested and charged with improper handling of a firearm -- in this instance, a second-degree misdemeanor.

The other male passenger, 49, of Cleveland, who was already in custody for the weapons investigation, was held for Cleveland Metroparks Police Department officers on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear on a traffic offense.

No charges were brought against the other female passenger, 65, of Cleveland, who was released with the vehicle.
