Baltimore, MD – A suspect, Patrick Cromwell, who called the police to report a potentially deadly cutting incident during a dispute has now been formally charged with the murder of his 77-year-old roommate, Joseph Barranco.

Authorities disclosed that the incident occurred in the 900 block of West University Parkway over the weekend.

Baltimore Police Department officers responded to an apartment early Sunday morning upon receiving a call reporting an aggravated assault involving a cutting.

Cromwell had dialed 911 to inform dispatchers that he had cut someone, later identified as Barranco, and believed him to be deceased. Barranco was pronounced dead at the scene, with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later confirming his death as a homicide.

In an update released on Tuesday, police indicated that Cromwell had been apprehended and charged with first-degree murder for Barranco’s fatal stabbing. Cromwell is currently in custody without bail and is set to appear in court next month.
