A 29-year-old man charged with murder in the stabbing death of his ex-girlfriend over the weekend in Southwest Miami-Dade will remain behind bars without bond.

Joy Chandra Nath appeared Monday morning before Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Mindy Glazer. After reviewing the arrest report, Glazer found probable cause for a second-degree murder charge and ordered Nath to be held without bond. She did, however, set a $5,000 bond for a separate child abuse charge he is also facing.

Nath is accused of fatally stabbing 24-year-old Maria Camila Garcia-Molina on Saturday afternoon.

3-year-old found wandering leads deputies to grim discovery

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, around 4 p.m. Saturday, a woman flagged down a deputy to report that her 3-year-old granddaughter had been found wandering the parking lot of a residential complex near Southwest 144th Street and Southwest 134th Avenue. The child appeared to have dried blood on her face and clothing.

Deputies searching for the child's mother discovered Garcia-Molina's vehicle parked at the Twin Lakes complex, where she lived. Blood was visible on the front passenger seat, and Garcia-Molina's body was found wrapped in blankets on the rear floorboard, according to the arrest report. She had suffered "multiple sharp force injuries" to her neck, torso, and arms.

Daughter tells detectives mother was with "Joy"

During questioning, Garcia-Molina's young daughter told detectives that her mother had been with a man named "Joy" and that she had been "hit in the head and was now sleeping," the report states.

Family members informed investigators that Nath was Garcia-Molina's ex-boyfriend and that he had a history of stalking her. Records show she had previously obtained a temporary restraining order against him.

Court records reveal Garcia-Molina's fear of escalating violence

CBS News Miami also obtained court records showing Garcia-Molina had accused Nath of "persistent stalking" that she feared would escalate into violence.

In her petition for protection, Garcia-Molina alleged that in late January, Nath was seen hiding behind a trash can near her car. When she spotted him, she said she quickly drove away. Days later, on January 29, her aunt and uncle encountered Nath again while walking their dog, who rushed toward him as he stood by a neighbor's trash can.

She also described an incident after their breakup in November when Nath showed up at her workplace with chocolates and flowers. Later, she said, Nath told her, "I left something on your car," and she discovered an Apple AirTag device attached to her vehicle.

Just one day before Garcia-Molina's death, Nath allegedly followed her to Dolphin Mall, where he reportedly had an altercation with her current boyfriend, according to the court documents.

Evidence ties suspect to victim's death

When questioned by detectives, Nath allegedly admitted to spending time with Garcia-Molina and her daughter earlier that day but claimed they had gone their separate ways.

However, during a search of Nath's vehicle, investigators found Garcia-Molina's purse and cellphone. Data retrieved from the phone showed it had traveled from her residence to Nath's home, then back to the area where her body was later found, authorities said.

Nath was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree murder and child abuse.
