A Pennsylvania man was convicted of murder in the “cold-blooded, unprovoked attack” of his ex-girlfriend’s uncle at a Long Island backyard party nearly four years ago, officials announced Wednesday.

Paulin Cerisier, 29, was accused of arriving at a party in Amityville in the early hours of July 18, 2021, approaching Maresse Dickerson-Stevenson and shooting him in the left shoulder “without provocation,” the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

The victim was pronounced dead shortly afterward, prosecutors said. Cerisier fled the scene and evaded capture for three years.

In July 2024, Suffolk County Police homicide detectives arrested him at a hotel in Washington County, Pennsylvania.

On Wednesday, a Suffolk County jury found him guilty of one count of second-degree murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, officials said.

“This was a cold-blooded, unprovoked attack on an innocent man at a backyard party,” District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney said in a statement. “With this verdict, justice has now been served. I thank the jury, law enforcement, and our prosecution team for their diligent work in securing this outcome.”

A request for comment from his attorney, Matthew Touhey, wasn’t immediately returned Thursday morning.

Cerisier is expected to be sentenced on July 15. He faces up to 25 years to life in prison.
