A man tried to sneak into a Virginia Square apartment building, then brandished a machete after being asked to leave.

That’s according to the latest Arlington County Police Department crime report .

The incident happened just before noon Sunday when the man “allegedly followed [a woman] inside” a building on the 3400 block of Washington Blvd. She alerted an employee, who asked the man to leave, which he did before pulling out the knife and fleeing the scene, according to police.

BRANDISHING, 2025-05040100, 3400 block of Washington Boulevard. At approximately 11:58 a.m. on May 4, police were dispatched to the report of a suspicious person with a knife. Upon arrival, it was determined the female victim was entering a residential building when the male suspect allegedly followed her inside. The victim then alerted an employee who asked the suspect to leave. The suspect then exited the building and brandished a machete before fleeing the scene. Responding officers located an individual matching the description of the suspect in the area of Washington Boulevard and N. Kirkwood Road and took him into custody. During the course of the investigation, a machete was recovered. [The suspect], 33, of Arlington, Va. was arrested and charged with Brandishing a Machete and Carrying a Concealed Weapon. He was held without bond.
