HOUSTON — The
NCAA Tournament brackets were released Sunday afternoon, and there are plenty of Texas teams with a shot at cutting down the nets in San Antonio when it’s all over. Here’s a rundown of the Texas teams that’ll be dancing starting later this week. At this point, we don't know the times. As soon as we do, we'll post them here.
Midwest region
The
Houston Cougars have the No. 1 seed in the Midwest . They’ll open up Thursday against Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. That game will be Wichita. The Texas Longhorns have a shot in the Midwest, too, but first they need to get past Xavier Wednesday in the No. 11 play-in game in Dayton, Ohio. If Texas wins, they’ll take no the No. 9 seed Illinois.
South region
Texas A&M is in the tournament as a No. 4 seed. They’ll open up against No. 13 Yale Thursday in Denver.
West region
It’s a No. 3 seed for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. They’ll take on No. 14 UNCW Thursday in Wichita.
East region
Baylor is dancing as a No. 9 seed. They’ll open things up against No. 8 Mississippi State. That game is Friday in Raleigh.
Final Four in San Antonio
There’s more Texas flavor in the tournament this year. The NCAA champs will be crowned in the Alamo City. The Final Four will be played inside the Alamodome on April 5 with the championship on April 7.
