Litchfield County shoppers are getting an early holiday present, but it will be one that they will have wait a while to collect on.

Officials with Massachusetts-based TJX Cos. confirmed Friday that they will be opening a new Marshalls store in the Shops at Ledgebrook in Winsted sometime in 2025, according to Robert Heidenberg, president and chief executive officer of Heidenberg Properties Group. The northern New Jersey company recently purchased the shopping center for a little over $14 million and the deal closed last week, Heidenberg said.

The Marshalls store will likely open in the third quarter or fourth quarter of 2025 and take up 23,000 square feet, he said. Marshalls has nearly two dozen Connecticut stores, according to the TJX web site, but the nearest one to Winsted is 14 miles away in Avon.

"We see this as a really strong location for us," Heidenberg said. "The Stop & Shop there does really well and it's a market where their isn't a lot of competition."

More Business

In addition to Marshalls, TJX also operates TJ Maxx and Home Goods stores.

Heidenberg Properties Group now owns 13 shopping centers in seven states.

Heidenberg said this is the first time in more than two decades that his company has owned commercial real estate in Connecticut. The Shops at Ledgebrook, which is located at 200 Route 44, is anchored by a Stop & Shop supermarket, and a Webster Bank branch, but has about 10,000 square feet of retail space left to fill.
