The reward now exceeds $30,000 to bring her killer to justice.

On Tuesday, June 29, 57-year-old Michelle Jordan Cummings was in Annapolis to celebrate her son's induction, football prospect Leonard Cummings III, into the U.S. Naval Academy.

The Houston-based mother was sitting out on the Graduate Hotel patio "with her husband and another couple when she was killed by stray bullets early Tuesday morning," according to CBS Baltimore. Cummings was shot multiple times, and police "believe the bullets came from a nearby shooting on Pleasant Street ... the bullets missed their intended targets—two people in an SUV—and went through a wooded area."

While police have interviewed the people who may have been the intended targets, no suspects are in custody. But in an official statement, Governor Hogan wrote that "our administration and the Maryland State Police have offered our full resources and support to all participating law enforcement agencies."

In addition, he wrote, "the State of Maryland is adding $10,000 to the reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible." This brings the total reward up to $32,000, with CBS Baltimore reporting "$10,000 is coming from the FBI, $10,000 more from the ATF, $10,000 from the state and $2,000 from Crimestoppers."

As police search for the killer, Cummings' family is preparing for her funeral, and her son, known by friends as Trey, is "now on emergency leave from the Naval Academy but intends to come back to school and play football."

Governor Hogan offered "heartfelt condolences" for "a senseless crime," and Annapolis Police Chief Ed Jackson said, "What I would say to the shooter is: 'Turn yourself in. We're coming after you.'"

Annapolis police have advertised the reward money on a digital billboard. If you or someone you know might have a tip, please call 1-800-CALL-FBI.
