FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. (7News) — A few weeks ago, when the impact of federal job cuts on Maryland became very clear, Governor Wes Moore vowed to do everything he could to connect displaced federal workers with jobs in Maryland.

A job fair on Tuesday in Frederick was the first visible sign of that effort, and about 1,000 people signed up to attend.

At the event, people let go by the Departments of Commerce, Health and Human Services (HHS), Social Security, and contractors who worked for the U.S. Agency for International Development spoke to 7News. Many are well into their careers and unsure about the immediate future.

At the job fair, they could go from booth to booth, hearing about opportunities in state and local agencies and several private-sector employers. Many also met face-to-face with Governor Wes Moore, who spent about an hour mingling and listening.

Moore promises there will be job fairs all across the state in the weeks ahead.
