The state hopes to fill open positions and assist job seekers in finding private sector jobs and apprenticeships.

The state of Maryland wants to get the word out about jobs inside and outside of the government. There are more than 380 jobs available all over the state, including positions in public safety, administrative, public health, and finance. Jobs are listed by title and county, making it easier to find opportunities near you. Benefits provided by the state of Maryland include health insurance, paid leave, retirement benefits, student loan forgiveness, flexible work schedules, and transit benefits.

Job seekers can search for and apply to jobs by going to the State of Maryland Jobs Openings website. Applicants can also fill out “interest cards” for job categories that don’t currently have any openings. When a job comes up, the applicant will get an email from the job database. Maryland will also be holding several specialty job fairs this spring all over the state. The next job fair will be on Saturday, Mar. 2, 2019, at The SEED School of Maryland. For a complete list of upcoming job fairs, visit the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation.

Late last year, the state of Maryland also unveiled an online apprenticeship locater. This program helps connect youth and adult job seekers with employers offering apprenticeship programs. The online locator lists over 90 types of apprenticeships in fields like air conditioning, electrical, ironworking, carpentry, and more. Job seekers can use the locator to find opportunities and make connections with companies that are actively looking for an apprentice.

The U.S. Department Bureau of Labor Statistics showed Maryland added over 50,000 jobs last year, a 1.9 percent increase over 2017. The state’s unemployment rate for 2018 was 3.9 percent, mirroring the federal unemployment rate.
