The Maryland State Police recently held an awards ceremony to honor their standout employees of 2024, recognizing those who have gone above and beyond in their dedication to serving the community. Among the recipients were Trooper First Class Jack Hadley, named Trooper of the Year, and Sergeant Steven Muehl, honored as Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year.

Trooper Hadley, who has been with the department since 2016 and is a product of the 145th Academy Class, made significant strides in the Criminal Enforcement Division Maryland State Apprehension Team, resulting in the apprehension of 77 fugitives last year. Sergeant Muehl, a graduate of the 134th Academy Class, has significantly contributed to public safety through his Highway Gun Crime Initiative, resulting in 20 arrests and the seizure of 24 firearms related to road rage incidents.

Emergency Dispatch personnel were not left out of the accolades. Emergency Dispatcher Supervisor of the Year was awarded to Bethany Richards of the JFK Memorial Barrack, and Lashonda Wilson of the Hagerstown Barrack received the Emergency Dispatcher of the Year honor. Both have been cited for their exemplary performance under pressure and contributions to their teams. The Civilian of the Year honor went to Latosha Clark, an Administrative Specialist III of the Forestville Barrack, who utilized her former experience as an emergency dispatcher supervisor to mentor her peers.

In an emotionally charged ceremony, Colonel Roland L. Butler, Jr. expressed his pride in the decorated individuals, stating, “I am very proud to lead a force of dedicated employees who commit themselves each day to doing all they can to fight crime, reduce traffic crashes, and protect our citizens,” according to the Maryland State Police news release . Each recipient was evaluated at the local level within their specific barracks or units, highlighting the commitment to excellence that runs through the entire department.
