A Christiana Borough woman went to get a glass of water for a potential buyer for her puppies when she saw the buyer, Jamila Campbell, running through neighbors’ yards, a stolen dog under each arm, according to police. Christiana Borough police Tuesday charged Jamila Aisha Campbell, 34, of Columbia, Maryland, with theft and receiving stolen property after they say she stole two 8-week-old toy poodles , Baby and Buttercup, from a High Street home Feb. 13. Campbell met with the Christiana woman intending to buy the puppies for her daughter’s birthday, according to charging documents. The dogs are valued at $1,295 each. The Christiana woman reported seeing a white U-Haul truck circle her block three times before seeing Campbell approach her High Street home on foot, according to police. After running off with the dogs, police tracked down Campbell, spotting her U-Haul in Hershey with another unidentified woman. Campbell was not in custody as of Thursday afternoon. Police have not said where the puppies are now. Campbell also is charged with theft in Dauphin County for stealing $75 from the service station in Hershey where she rented the van, according to police. In Maryland, Campbell was charged earlier this month with failing to return a rented vehicle.
