Runners of all ages can explore their own habitat while supporting the zoo!

One of the best parts about the Maryland Zoo's annual 8K is getting to run on the zoo's grounds, and while this isn't happening this year, they've launched a remote version of the event you can do from home!

"Zoo Zoom: Home Habitat 8K" will get people moving, all while supporting the zoo's conservation efforts. Runners of all ages can lace up their tennis shoes to fundraise for the zoo's efforts in species conservation, educational resources, and other important work they do as a nonprofit. It still channels the spirit of the original event while keeping everyone safe. Talk about a win-win!

Runners of all ages can break a sweat in their neck of the woods, whether it's a nature park or their own neighborhood, and benefit the nonprofit's mission in the process. Like events past, participants can collect their registration packet at the zoo between November 13 and 20. You'll have until Monday, November 23, to submit the results of your race to the zoo's website.

Part of the event includes a costume contest, and this year they're encouraging participants to go a little wild if they wish. Go feral as a cheetah or show off those peacock feathers for a chance to win Best Adult Costume, Best Child Costume, or Best Group Costume. To enter, just submit your look on the event's Facebook or Instagram account and use the hashtag #ZooZoom2020!

8K Registration is $50 and Kids Fun Run Registration is $35. Like events past, both come equipped with an event hoodie or t-shirt, a complimentary ticket to the zoo (good for a year), and automatic entry into the "zoo zoom" photo contest. As an added plus, zoo members get $5 off their purchase. So step to it—this is one you won't want to miss!

The Maryland Zoo reopened in July with modified safety precautions to keep guests safe. You can review them here.
