A significant fire appears to have broken out near a major U.S. airport on Wednesday afternoon.

Footage from Tampa, Florida shows a huge stack of black smoke emerging near the airport. There is something that is very much on fire near the Tampa International Airport.

MLB reporters at Steinbrenner Field, the spring training home for the New York Yankees, first noticed the fire on Wednesday afternoon. Longtime MLB reporter Bryan Hoch shared footage of the black smoke in the distance, which appears to be close to the Tampa airport.

"Big smoke billowing from the area near Tampa International Airport," he wrote, sharing a video of the fire.

MLB reporter Gary Phillips also shared a photo of the fire in the distance. He reported that emergency sirens could be heard.

"Some serious smoke at/near the Tampa airport can be seen from Steinbrenner Field. Lots of sirens sounding in the distance," he reported.

The Tampa International Airport has released a statement on the fire, confirming that the airport does not have an active fire on its grounds. However, the airport can see the smoke in the distance. It is not currently impacting airport operations.

"Hi there!" the airport's social media account wrote in response to a concerned citizen.

"We do not have an active fire on our property/airfield, but we can also see the plume from here. Airport operations are not impacted at this time."

It remains unclear at this time what is causing the fire. Stay tuned for updates on the situation.
