Encinitas Wine & Food Festival returns June 7
Once again, it’s time to Sip, Savor and Support at the Encinitas Rotary Wine & Food Festival. The popular event is celebrating its 22nd anniversary on Saturday, June 7, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the VIP event starting at 3 p.m., at the scenic Encinitas Ranch Golf Course. This signature North County event brings together the best in local cuisine, fine wines, craft brews, and community giving — all set against a stunning coastal backdrop. Attendees will enjoy tastings from 50+ local restaurants, wineries, breweries, and spirit vendors, live music by Celeste Barbier, and the chance to mingle with fellow food and wine lovers. But beyond the culinary experience, this event is about giving back. The Encinitas 101 MainStreet Association has started its 26th annual presentation of Encinitas Cruise Nights, including new and familiar car clubs and awesome local live bands. The series is held on the third Thursday of May through September, from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p,m. Future Cruise Nights this year will be held on June 19, July 17, Aug. 21, and Sept. 18. Switchfoot Bro-Am returns for its 21st year, with the Benefit Party and then the Beach Fest, celebrating music, surfing and community while raising money for San Diego youth beneficiaries. The Friends of the Encinitas Library presents a free concert, Sunshine of Your Love — Peter Sprague Plays Cream, from 2 to 3 p.m. June 1 at 540 Cornish Drive. A duo show split between The Brown Studio in Encinitas and Rancho Santa Fe’s Oolong Gallery will celebrate with an artist talk, rock’ n’ roll performance and Art Party on Saturday, May 31 at The Brown Studio in Encinitas. Oolong founder Eric Laine is hosting this special event for the gallery’s latest show ”A to L and Back Again” featuring LA friends and artists Nick Aguayo and Dan Levenson which will be on display at the two locations through June 5. San Diego Italian Film Festival to feature ‘Orlando’ at La Paloma Theatre
San Diego Italian Film Festival presents Orlando on Thursday, June 12, 7 p.m. at La Paloma Theatre, Encinitas. Orlando is an aged musician from a small town in central Italy who lost his wife years ago and now lives alone, playing the accordion at weddings and working the land. Valerio, his only child, left for Brussels soon after his mother’s death, which led Orlando to cut all ties with him. This film is in Italian with English subtitles. A Spring Holiday Celebration with Congregation B’nai Tikvah will be at 6:30 p.m. May 30 for the Jewish holiday of Shavu’ot, which hearkens back more than 3,000 years to the giving of the Torah to Moses at Mount Sinai. There will be cheesecake Kiddush to honor the holiday theme. Bring non-perishable food for Interfaith Community Services and jackets for Jonah’s coat drive. Temporary Foster Care volunteers are sought for pets at Rancho Coastal Humane Society, particularly during the spring and summer when there are many baby kittens and puppies. Encinitas Guitar Orchestra to hold ‘Through the Ages’ concert
The Encinitas Guitar Orchestra, under the direction of Peter Pupping, invites all on a musical journey June 6 at 7:30 p.m. themed Through the Ages. This unique concert will feature a 35-member guitar ensemble performing a chronological program that spans centuries of musical history. The evening begins in the Renaissance with works by John Dowland, followed by selections from Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto and Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. The program then transitions into the Romantic and modern eras with Manuel de Falla’s La Vida Breve and Isaac Albéniz’s iconic Asturias, arranged for guitar orchestra. The journey concludes with powerful renditions of Holst’s Jupiter, Mason Williams’ Classical Gas, and Pat Metheny’s Awakening.The event will take place at Bethlehem Lutheran Church (925 Balour Dr., Encinitas). The San Diego Master Chorale concludes this season with a concert, Mixtape, at 4 p.m. May 31 at Coronado Performing Arts Center, 650 D Ave., Coronado, and 4 p.m. June 1 at San Dieguito United Methodist Church, 170 Calle Magdalena, Encinitas. The program features top-voted selections including the audience’s No. 1 pick, “Yesterday” by The Beatles, “Shenandoah,” and Mozart’s “Requiem” — a favorite among both audience and singers. The concerts will also include Billy Joel’s “And So It Goes,” with a special appearance by the San Diego Children’s Choir during the performance in Coronado. The concerts will include “Requests” chosen from more than 50 write-in submissions, along with “Bonus Tracks” and a live audience vote during the concert to select the encore. The 44th annual Fiesta del Sol celebration in Solana Beach is from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. May 31 and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 1 at Fletcher Cove Beach Park. The event will feature live music, entertainment, food, drinks, and family-friendly activities. The San Diego Botanic Garden runs its annual spring orchids show, “World of Orchids,” through June 1 in the glass-enclosed Dickinson Family Education Conservatory, 300 Quail Gardens Drive. The show includes plants on loan from the San Diego County Orchid Society and the Palomar Orchid Society, along with local businesses. There will be classes and vendors on select weekends. Garden hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed Tuesdays). Reservations are recommended. April and the Funk Junkies band will perform a Happy Hour fundraising concert at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach on Friday, May 30. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the concert runs from 5:30 p.m.-7:45 p.m. Proceeds benefit Voices of our City Choir.
