Get ready for a weekend of community spirit, entertainment and heartfelt remembrance as Bradley Beach presents its annual Memorial Day Weekend celebration. The festivities begin at 10 a.m. Saturday with a Memorial Day parade down Ocean Avenue. Grand Marshal is Army Cpl. Richard James Henkel. Spectators can expect to see antique cars, clowns, marching bands and more. Following the parade is the Boardwalk Festival, running throughout Saturday and Sunday. Over 60 vendors will line the boardwalk, offering food, crafts, goods and local treasures. There will be live music at the boardwalk gazebo, featuring the Mike Kaplan Big Band, followed by Little x Little. On Sunday, dance the afternoon away with DJ Jay. The celebration moves to Riley Park at 4 p.m. for a performance by Pat Roddy. At 11 a.m. on Memorial Day there will be a ceremony in Riley Park to honor our fallen soldiers. Guest speaker is Bradley Beach Police Department Lt. Anthony Murray. This year's tribute will include doves being released, symbolizing peace and remembrance.

Memorial Day parade in Freehold
Elected officials, residents, visitors and veterans of the Armed Forces will gather at Elks Point (where Routes 79 and 537 converge) at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, May 26, to honor those who died in service to the United States as Freehold Borough begins its annual commemoration of Memorial Day. Former borough Councilman George Schnurr will serve as the master of ceremonies for the Service of Reflection.Following the service, the borough’s 151st Memorial Day Parade will begin at 9:45 a.m. at Brinckerhoff Avenue and West Main Street. A horse-drawn caisson wagon transporting a casket covered by an American flag will be accompanied by military personnel as it heads down the parade route.

Monmouth Museum Fossil Hunt
Join local fossil expert Marc Rogoff at 10 a.m. Saturday for a guided exploration of the Ramanessin Brook Fossil Beds in Holmdel. Learn how to sift and search for fossils. You'll be able to examine your findings at the Monmouth Museum under a high-powered microscope. Tickets are $14 and include museum admission. Children under 2 are free. Reservations are required. The group will meet at the parking lot of Village Elementary School, which is right next to the Ramanessin Fossil Beds, 67 McCampbell Road. The museum suggets wearing rain boots and having a change of clothes, just in case. The fossil hunt takes place rain or shine.

'Scenes from the Shore' in Island Heights
The John F. Peto Studio Museum has unveiled a new exhibit hall, which will allow for expanded exhibits, more community programming, and greater access to the disabled. The first exhibit in the space is "Scenes from the Shore: An Exhibit of Artists by The River," which runs through Sunday, Aug. 31. The show spotlights the evocative work of featured artist John English, whose art captures the interplay of light, water and life along riverside landscapes. Additional artists on display include Eve Allison, Don Bottomly, Margaret Greener, Dan Izard, Barbara Jost, Virginia Perle, Karen Pomeroy and Ludlow Thorston. Works by John F. Peto will also be on display in the artist’s studio and the Alice English Percy Askoff Gallery on the second floor of the museum. Admission is $10, $8 for students and seniors 62 and older, free for children 12 and younger. Tours are available.

'A Funeral for Spring' in Asbury Park
From 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Over The Moon Art Studios in Asbury Park will host "A Funeral for Spring," an immersive solo exhibition by Jesusjoints Art (Meg Hadley), featuring a selection of supporting works by guest artists. The show centers around Hadley’s newest body of oil paintings on glass — unraveling themes of floral decay, surreal transformation and psychological rebirth — with complementary pieces by fellow emerging and underground artists who echo the emotional and symbolic tone of the work. The free show takes place at 808 Springwood Ave. Guests are encouraged to wear their finest mourning attire. In addition to Jesusjoints, participating artists include Jim Cook, Kay Heikkinen, Ariana Sanchez, Monika Rybak, Daniel Voelker, Ilene Hinden, Robert Ognek, Molly Gardner and Michael Teters. The evening is sponsored by Asbury Park Brewery, who will be providing free brews, and Peter James Floral Couture, who will be contributing custom florals to help set the mood for spring’s final rites.

'Green Honey Love' in Middletown
The Middletown Arts Center, in conjunction with Dunbar Repertory Company, present the comedy "Green Honey Love" Friday to Sunday. Written by Gail Wynn Huland El and directed by Damien S. Berger, the play is a story about adultery, deceit, greed, and conspiracy of murder. Except for her lover, everyone, including her husband George, thinks Belinda still has the mind of a child after being involved in a terrible car accident that caused severe head injury. What George doesn’t know is that Belinda and her lover are conspiring to kill him before the settlement check arrives. Show times are 8 p.m. Friday, 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday, and 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $22. Tickets for Sunday's performance, where you can meet the playwright after the show, are $17.
