FORT WORTH, Texas — The Memphis basketball team begins its quest for a second AAC tournament title in three years.

The 17th-ranked Tigers (26-5) will take on Wichita State (19-13) at Dickies Arena today (noon, ESPN2) in the quarterfinal round. The Shockers advanced with a win over South Florida Wednesday.

Wichita State is the last team to beat Memphis, dropping the Tigers 84-79 in overtime on Feb. 16. The Shockers also ended Memphis' 2023-24 season in Fort Worth.

Earlier this week, Memphis coach Penny Hardaway gave off an air of confidence that his team is prepared no matter what teams it will have to face.

"We're unified," he said. "We all have the same goal, and that hasn't always been that way on this team in the past years. It's been kind of selfish. Some guys that had been so good felt like they could do it on their own.

"But, with this group, our biggest attribute as a squad is our unity. We're together."
