Akshay Bhatia was a PGA Tour breakout in 2024 and looks to grab his first win of this year at the Mexico Open at Vidanta Vallarta. It's a thin field, with Bhatia the only golfer drawing odds shorter than 22/1 to open the week.

After several high-profile, big-ticket tournaments, the 2025 Mexico Open features a more anonymous field by comparison.

That doesn't mean good golf won't be played, as it's an opportunity for underdogs, up-and-comers, and veterans to find a groove ahead of major season.

Let's take a look at the field and the early golf odds for the Mexico Open at Vidanta Vallarta being held from February 20-23, 2025.

Mexico Open field

Winning last year's Mexico Open hasn't earned Jake Knapp any favors as he's sitting at +3300. Still, there aren't any runaway favorites.

Akshay Bhatia is drawing the shortest odds in the field at +1400 (no one else is shorter than 22/1). The 23-year-old fits the bill as a PGA Tour "up-and-comer" and is fresh off a T9 at the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines. That was his best finish of the young season after kicking off the year with a T32, T22, and T32, respectively, through his first three events. Still, it's a more balanced stretch than what we saw last year, as Bhatia opened the year with three Top-15 finishes mixed in with four missed cuts by late March.

Patrick Rodgers, Kurt Kitayama, and Stephan Jaeger are next in line with +2200 odds apiece.

The 32-year-old Rodgers is in even better immediate form than Bhatia as he escaped Torrey Pines with a T3 on the weekend. That was easily his best result of the year, as he's missed a couple of cuts and topped out at T22 at Pebble Beach in early February. Rodgers finished T6 at Vidanta Vallarta in 2024 and is still seeking his first PGA Tour victory.

Kitayama hasn't finished better than his T37 at the Sony Open to open the year through four events. We last saw him at the WM Phoenix Open, where he finished T49 at TPC Scottsdale, though he finished strong with a round of 67 on Sunday. This is Kitayama's first entry in the Mexico Open.

Finally, Jaeger has been a mixed bag, finishing T40 or worse in his last three tournaments. However, he nabbed a T3 at the Sony Open in early January. And, like Rodgers, he finished T3 in last year's Mexico Open.
