Both Manhattan High bowling teams walked away with first place on Tuesday at a quadrangle hosted by Topeka High at Gage Bowl.

For the MHS boys, the Indians won their second meet of the year with team score of 2601. Highland Park (2212) and Topeka West (2109) rounded out the top three.

Individually, both MHS teams had freshmen leading the way in scoring with Nicholas Burfict, who shot a 661, and Cortlynn Millington, who rolled a 623.

The rest of the top five finishers on the boys’ side were all Manhattan bowlers with Jayden Moreno (643), Tucker Callahan (610), Alec Ogorzolka (603) and Nathan DeArmond (584).

“To have four bowlers roll over 600 is something Manhattan has not seen for a while,” assistant coach Chris George said. “Our depth this year leads to good competition in practice.”

Moreno also rolled the top game of the tournament with a 270.

Two other Manhattan girls were in the top five with Grace Radi shooting a 531 to take second and Brooke Thede rolling a 442 to place fourth.

The Indians’ next tournament is Tuesday at Westridge Lanes hosted by Washburn Rural.
