Vlad Goldin got engaged to his girlfriend on Friday. The fifth-year college basketball senior got down on one knee after Michigan lost to Michigan State in blowout fashion on its home court.

I am extremely thrilled for the happy couple and I wish them nothing but a lifetime of happiness and success, but the timing of this proposal just goes to show that the transfer portal has diminished the importance of rivalries in collegiate athletics.

Goldin was a three-star college basketball prospect in the recruiting Class of 2020 and committed to play for Texas Tech out of Nalchick, Russia. He spent one season in Lubbock, entered the transfer portal, and moved to Boca Raton to play for Dusty May at FAU. The 7-foot-1 center played a crucial role in the Owls’ run to the Final Four during the 2023-24 season during his three seasons with the program.

Vlad Goldin got engaged at Michigan!

Goldin enter the portal for a second time as a graduate transfer when May left Florida Atlantic for Michigan and followed his head coach to Ann Arbor for one final season. He is currently averaging 15.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game for the No. 12-ranked Wolverines.

However, his first opportunity to play his new in-state rival was bittersweet. Michigan blew a four-point lead at halftime and lost to Michigan State by 13 on its home floor at the Crisler Center, which was bitter.

That did not stop Vlad Goldin from proposing to his girlfriend after the game, which was very sweet!

He and former FAU volleyball player Camryn Vogler are engaged!

They went Instagram official back in 2023 but it is unclear as to when their relationship officially began.

Perhaps Feb. 21 is a very important date for the soon-to-be-married couple. I would imagine it has to be an anniversary or something of that nature if Vlad Goldin decided to propose after a loss, right?

Maybe. Maybe not.

Considering that Goldin does not have any deep-rooted ties to the University of Michigan, the loss to Michigan State may not mean as much to him as a fifth-year senior who played his entire career for the Wolverines and has grown to hate the Spartans as much, if not more, than the Ohio State Buckeyes. For the proposal to occur on Feb. 21 obviously meant more to him than proposing after a victory.

Michigan has three more home games this season against Rutgers, Illinois and Maryland. Although they are not guaranteed wins, it feels like the Wolverines will at least get one. Vlad Goldin could’ve kept the ring in his locker for another week or two but he decided to go for it anyway. Congratulations!
