LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Michigan voters are expected to play a big role in the presidential election. Our battleground state could decide which candidate gets in the White House. “All signs are pointing to a very close election this time,” said MSU political scientist Matt Grossmann. That’s why Michigan has seen numerous visits from both candidates. Grossmann said with the election so close, candidates are doing everything they can to get the Michigan vote. “That’s the best way to spend their time and money to try to convince a few more people to turn out or vote for their side,” Grossmann said. Candidates are trying to appeal to two vital demographics in Michigan: Black voters and Arab voters. “The national polls do see Democrats losing some ground among black voters... even a small amount of loss to Trump could make an outcome in the election,” Grossmann said. “We have a very live set of conflict in the Middle East which could provoke interest and have provoked interest from that constituency,” Grossmann said in regards to Arab voters. Grossman said if the election comes down to one state, it could very well be Michigan. Subscribe to our News 10 newsletter and YouTube page to receive the latest local news and weather.
