Michigan is the No. 7 seed and Michigan State is No. 12 in the Big Ten baseball tournament, which takes place Tuesday through Sunday at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Neb. The 12 tournament teams will compete in three-team pool play, with the four pool winners advancing to Saturday’s semifinals. The championship game is Sunday at 3 p.m. Michigan (33-21, 16-14 Big Ten), which lost two of three to Indiana to close the regular season, will open the tournament with an 11 a.m. Tuesday game against No. 11 Illinois. Michigan State (28-25, 13-17) earned the final spot in the tournament when Randy Seymour hit a walk-off single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth Saturday to beat Minnesota 11-10. That win, combined with Northwestern’s loss to UCLA on Saturday, propelled the Spartans into the tournament. The Spartans lost the first two games of the series against the Gophers before Saturday's triumph. Michigan State takes on No. 8 Nebraska in Tuesday’s third and final game at 7 p.m. The tournament winner gets an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
