DETROIT, Mich. (WNEM) - Saturday was the second and final day of the high school football state championship at Ford Field in Detroit. Two of our remaining four local teams were in action today looking to close their season with a state title. First up in Division 7, Millington took on Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central. The Cardinals defense would play a perfect game as they shutout the Falcons 24-0 to win their first state championship in program history. Later in the afternoon, Frankenmuth was in their third state championship game in five years, as they took on Pontiac Notre Dame Prep in the Division 5 Final. The Fighting Irish would control majority of this game as they take down the Eagles 42-7. After the end of the football season, three Mid-Michigan teams brought home a state championship. Goodrich and Millington each earning their programs first state title, while Beal City captures their third.
