When wildfires rage, it's all hands on deck, and Minnesota's first responders are stepping up to the challenge. In a recent incident, Trooper Andrew Haken of the Minnesota State Patrol showcased quick action and teamwork as he joined forces with St. Louis County deputies and a resident to battle a grass fire near the city of Virginia.

According to a social media post by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, the incident occurred on May 20. "Given the nature of the fires over the last two weeks, I knew it would be imperative to get there quickly," Trooper Haken said, as he headed rapidly towards the scene to assist. Upon arrival, the efforts to contain the fast-spreading flames had already begun, but that didn't stop him from joining in.

The grass fire was one of many flare-ups in the wake of a series of destructive wildfires in the area. A video shared by the department captures the intensity of the situation as well as the determined response by those at the scene. Trooper Haken, with a sense of urgency, is seen using his extinguisher until it is empty and then resorts to using a shovel from his squad to help beat back the fire.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety is justly proud of its troopers' willingness to quickly and to effectively jump into action.
