(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) The Missouri Department of Agriculture director visited the city to attend the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce Agri Business Meeting.

BioZyme, Inc. hosted the chamber meeting where Director of Agriculture Chris Chinn shared her vision for the future of agriculture.

Lisa Norton, president of BioZyme, Inc., said understanding Chinn's vision is important to them.

"Helps us drive that vision, so that we are doing the same things that she sees needing to happen for our state," Norton said.

During the meeting, Chinn spoke on her vision which could improve the agriculture industry, for example, bringing the next generation back to the agriculture community.

"To do that, we're going to have to have high speed internet available in our rural communities, and so that's something we've been focused on at the Department of Agriculture in partnership with the Department of Economic Development," Chinn said.

As a way to celebrate National Agriculture Month, coming to St. Joseph was important to Chinn, as she said it's one of Missouri's best kept secrets.

Sheri Spader, chairman of Farm City Breakfast for the Chamber of Commerce, said what the importance is of this month.

"We exist because we have hard working farmers and ranchers that get up every day and go out and no matter what the weather, but they go out and take care of their livestock," Spader said. "They take care of their crops, and they make sure that we have a safe nutritious product for everyone."

Chinn's stop in town led to touring BioZyme, Inc. and Albaugh LLC.
