A bill that may change the future of paid sick leave and minimum wage has passed the Missouri House of Representatives.

Missouri lawmakers passed House Bill 567 , which would cut back on regulations voters established by passing Proposition A.

Missourians voted to pass Proposition A in November's election. This increased the state's minimum wage to $13.75 in January and will increase it again to $15 at the beginning of next year. The law also established new paid sick leave requirements and established that the minimum wage will be adjusted based on changes in the Consumer Price Index each January beginning in 2027.

HB 567 would remove paid sick leave requirements for businesses. It would maintain the $15 minimum wage but would keep it constant rather than adjust annually in relation to the CPI, according to the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Many business owners have opposed Proposition A because it may lead to them hiring fewer employees, according to the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.

The bill is not the only effort to undo parts of Proposition A.

The Missouri Supreme Court heard arguments on Wednesday from a group trying to overturn the law. The group argues that the election results should be overturned because of alleged constitutional violations.

The group of business owners that filed the petition with the Supreme Court argue that Proposition A contained more than one subject, while state law requires that laws contain only one subject.
