IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - Law enforcement officers say a St. Louis, Missouri man is facing charges after a high speed chase on Highway 218 on Sunday.

According to a criminal complaint, the chase started in Lee County, when a deputy tried to stop 46-year-old Elijah Childs for driving 85 mph in a 65 mph zone.

The deputy said Childs refused to stop. The chase went through parts of Lee, Henry and Johnson Counties, with Childs hitting speeds of 115 mph or more in a 65 mph zone.

The pursuit continued northbound on Highway 218 and ended safely at around 6:15 a.m. after the vehicle hit stop sticks in Iowa City.

Childs was then taken into custody.
