SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Missouri State University celebrated its 120th birthday.

School leaders founded it in 1905 as the Fourth District Normal School, focusing on educating teachers. Four years later, the first building on campus was completed. It’s now called Carrington Hall.

Since then, the school’s name has changed several times: first to Southwest Missouri State Teachers College, then Southwest Missouri State College, then to Southwest Missouri State University, which became Missouri State University in 2005.
