TULSA, OKLA. (KTUL) — Monroe Nichols claims victory as Tulsa's first black mayor Tuesday night after his opponent Karen Keith conceded.

Mayor GT Bynum released a statement Tuesday night congratulating Nichols on being Tulsa's 41st mayor.

"This is the greatest honor Tulsans have in our power to bestow on one of our neighbors," Bynum said. "Mayor Nichols has my full commitment to do all I can to help him launch his Administration successfully on December 2nd. I am excited to begin that transition, and we are scheduled to meet on Thursday to kick things off."

Bynum also thanked Keith for loving the city enough to become a candidate and run a campaign that attracted thousands of supporters.

"Karen has our city’s gratitude for all she has done - and will continue to do - for Tulsa," Bynum said.
