As Amazon shops around for its second headquarters location, Montgomery County is hoping to become the second home of the internet giant.

Montgomery County may soon welcome Amazon to the neighborhood; the internet giant has started its search for a second headquarters location. The construction of a $5-million new headquarters location would be a major economic score for the county and surrounding areas. An analysis done by the New York Times has determined the Washington D.C. area is one of the most likely choices by Amazon. Denver and Boston are also frontrunners. Amazon is also looking to build in an area which with a population of one million people or more and can provide what its first headquarters in Seattle can. Montgomery County would meet the company’s priorities and criteria -- 30-mile distance of major U.S. city, a 45-minute proximity of a major international airport, and within two miles of a major highway and mass transportation options. Montgomery County has a thriving and ripe business climate that would attract a large company like Amazon. The county's business corridors are home to a diverse workforce in the accounting, legal, administrative and software development fields, which would benefit both Montgomery and Amazon while bringing jobs and revenue. The 8-million square foot headquarters would impact the local economy by billions of dollars every year and employ 50,000 new workers. The county and local property owners should not let the opportunity slip away.

Numerous sites in the county could potentially be pitched: the now closed White Flint Mall in White Oak and the Shady Grove Metro Station. The County has until October 19 to submit its proposal and Amazon is expected to make an announcement sometime in 2018.
