The Dumb Friends League is looking to find 90 dogs and 18 cats their forever homes. The animals were rescued from various areas in Puerto Rico after the devastating Hurricane Maria.

On Tuesday, October 24, more than 100 dogs and cats were brought to Denver after 12 hours of travel from Puerto Rico. The Dumb Friends League is working with seven animal shelters to find new homes for the 90 dogs and 18 cats that were displaced because of Hurricane Maria. The animals arrived from two shelters in Puerto Rico -- one on the island of Vieques and another in San Juan. This isn't the first time Colorado shelters have taken in animals. After the hurricane in Houston, 16 miniature horses were rescued and sent to Colorado for adoption. "It's been a long, long road to get them here," said Maia Brusseau, a spokesperson for the Dumb Friends League. "We know we can bring these animals here, and they can find amazing homes very quickly." [gallery size="large" ids="26112,26114,26115"]
All of the animals arriving in Colorado will be spayed or neutered, as well as brought up-to-date on all vaccinations before they're put up for adoption. No word on exactly when the animals will be available, but it could be within the next two to three days (by this weekend), according to the Dumb Friends League. The seven Colorado shelters that are accepting the homeless animals are: Dumb Friends League Denver Animal Protection Aurora Animal Services Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region Pueblo Animal Services Larimer Humane Society Boulder Valley Humane Society To stay updated on the current progress of the animals and any information regarding adoption, please visit the Dumb Friends League website and/or Facebook page.
