Nearly 90% of Floridians plan to take a vacation of at least three days or more this year, according to auto club site AAA , and 45% of them plan to take more vacations this year than in 2024.

In a survey released Wednesday , 86% of Sunshine State residents plan to get away, up 2% from last year. And Florida itself remains a popular destination for vacations.

“For families who live in colder climates, spring break can’t come soon enough!” said Stacey Barber, Vice President of AAA Travel. “Florida is always a favorite this time of year because of its beaches, theme parks, and cruise ports."

For many people, spring break will be the first big vacation of the year and more than a quarter of Floridians plan to travel then. It might cost more this year, though.

Spring break travel is more expensive this year

The average roundtrip airfare this spring break season is $820 for domestic cities, up 7% from last year, and $1,440 for international cities, up 2% from last year, according to AAA booking data. Hotel stays in the U.S. are 8% more expensive (with an averaged of $660) while international hotel stays are 4% cheaper this spring break season, averaging $740.

Car rentals average about $645, about the same as last year, AAA said. International car rentals are about 5% cheaper for the spring break season, with an average booking costing around $615.

Also note: As of May 7, 2025. adults traveling within the United States must have a REAL ID or other acceptable form of ID to get past the TSA checkpoint on domestic flights or to access certain federal facilities. If you've received a new or renewed Florida driver's license or ID since January 2010, you're already good to go.
