The Metropolitan Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of a one-year-old child, a case under investigation since last September. The MPD announcement follows the conclusion of the investigation into the child's death in Northwest Washington, D.C.

On the evening of September 28, 2024, authorities responded to a call from a residence on the 3700 block of Connecticut Avenue regarding a child in distress. Upon arrival, they found Journee Moore, who was suffering from cardiac arrest. Despite efforts by D.C. Fire and EMS and transport to a local hospital, the child was pronounced dead after lifesaving measures were unsuccessful.

The following day, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia determined the cause of death to be multiple blunt force injuries and ruled the case a homicide. The MPD's Special Victims Unit continued its investigation.

On Thursday, 24-year-old Wayne Blake, a resident of Northwest DC, was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder – Felony Murder and Cruelty to Children in relation to the fatal incident. Detectives, determining the crime to be domestic in nature, obtained a DC Superior Court arrest warrant.

More information will be provided as court proceedings begin. The MPD is also encouraging anyone with additional information about the case to come forward to assist in the investigation.
