WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - The Midwestern State Women’s Tennis will play for a national championship in the NCAA Division II Tennis tournament.

The Mustangs made it to national level in 2024, but fell short in the semifinal round.

“Last year we came close to getting to the title,” Midwestern State University Tennis Player Jessica Binzari said.

“I mean it’s the best run that we’ve had ever,” Binzari said.

The Women’s Tennis team has a chance to win their first ever national title.

5 of the 11 players on the team are seniors.

“We’ve got so many returning players that have that experience and they already know what is going to hit us at nationals,” Binzari said.

“It was very tough for us, so you know everyone keeps each other accountable and I think that’s very important,” Midwestern State University Tennis Player Anda Ghinga said.

The team loss their Head Coach Scott Linn and Assistant Coach Shreya Chakraborty midseason.

“This never got to them,” Midwestern State University Women’s Tennis Interim Coach Vinicius Oliveira said.

“The team has always been great to put the team first and that’s what it’s about. Nothing became internal, nothing happened that became a major problem that could not be overcome,” Oliveira said.

The Mustangs are in the field of 16 regional champions that will compete in single-elimination tournament to reach the championship final in Florida.

The first round starts on May 21 and the final is May 25.
