FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -It was a tough two game this past weekend for the Nanook’s hockey team, with two one goal losses against the Michigan Tech Huskies. Game one saw the Huskies score 15 seconds into the game. The Nooks eventually tied things up 14:39 into the second period. Matt Koethe tallied his first goal of the season after a faceoff win from Kyle Gaffney, giving Gaffney the assist. Alaska managed to get to overtime after a strong Michigan Tech attack late, which saw two goals called off due to a high-sticking and reviewed offside call. Nicholas Grabko saved 10 of the total 26 shots he faced for the game in just the third period alone. Unfortunately, the Nooks lost 3:01 into the overtime period, giving the Nanooks their second overtime loss this season. Game two saw all the action in the first period, with Tech scoring 3:30 seconds into the first period, and they followed it up on the power play 13 minutes later. With just over a 1:30 left in the first, the Nanooks found pay dirt, with Chase Dafoe grabbing his first of the year and the Nooks lone goal of the night. Although the Nanooks out shot, the Huskies 30 to 18 Michigan Tech walked away with the win. The Nanooks head out on their next leg of the road trip, which sees the team take on Notre Dame. It marks 3,737.6 miles of the 15,240.3 miles they will travel before their first true home game against Augustana on December 6th at the Carlson Center.
