SPRINGFIELD — So far, only one probationary full-time employee has been confirmed as being laid off from the Springfield Armory National Historic Site on State Street in the wake of Trump administration firings, but that firing prompted between 80 and 90 people to stand out in front of the Armory Museum Saturday, demanding that all the fired be returned to work. Called by several names — “The National Day of Resistance” or the “Save Our Parks Day” — the demonstration’s mission was the same: protest the wholesale firing of federal workers by the Trump administration’s DOGE, or Department of Government Efficiency, which has resulted in the tens of thousands of firings across the country and at least 1,000 from the National Park Service.
