As Nebraska football fans gear up for the season opener at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln Saturday, the Nebraska State Patrol is helping the "sea of red" get there safely.

If you're coming from Omaha, troopers and the Nebraska Department of Transportation encourage drivers to take I-80 all the way to the I-180 exit in downtown Lincoln.

"We need people to be aware of the surroundings because traffic does come, can come to a slow pretty quickly in those areas and in areas of congestion. So, we just need the drivers to be paying attention to the roadway," said Lt. Toby Czapla.

The State Patrol also encourages fans to be alert when driving through downtown Lincoln.

"Be responsible. Watch your distracted driving. Try not to drive distracted. Don't drive impaired. And always wear your seatbelt when you're traveling," said Lt. Czapla.

As for the ride home from Lincoln to Omaha, drivers are encouraged to get back on I-180 to I-80. Due to the possibility of traffic congestion, troopers may shut down the Waverly on-ramp. They want you to avoid Cornhusker highway.
