Netflix has released a new reward system for kids that encourages binge-watching with collectible patches, and many people, particularly parents, are not happy with it.

If you thought your kiddos were addicted to watching TV, they definitely will be now thanks to Netflix's test-run of a new binge-watching reward system. At least, that's what it seems like Netflix wants to happen.

This new system allows kids to collect "patches" by watching shows, with a single patch being rewarded for each episode. The patches are their own rewards, with no additional content being offered, and they're available on certain Netflix original children's shows like A Series of Unfortunate Events, Fuller House, Trolls, and more.

As you can probably already tell, this has raised some areas for concern among parents and child safety experts, many fearing that this could lead to a binge-watching addiction.

Josh Golin, executive director of the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood, told Gizmodo, "It's designed to turn kids into lobbyists and undermine parents' limits."

Golin also stated that with all of the conversations being held about "persuasive design of tech" and how that technology is being "designed for the benefit of tech companies at the expense of users' well-being," he's shocked that Netflix would even test something like this.

Netflix claims that they're testing the patch system in order to give a more interactive, fun experience for kids that will provide a talking-point with their friends and to share the titles they've enjoyed. But many, like Golin, don't see it that way and are worried about how the extended screen time could impact children's development.

It has yet to be decided whether or not the patches will become a permanent feature for all users, or if the trial was simply that, a trial. Netflix hasn't said anything on the matter, but we're hopeful some updates will be released soon.
