On Wednesday, December 10, the Children’s National Health System broke ground on a specialty care and pediatric outpatient center in Glenarden.
Just as construction begins on a new University of Maryland Medical System hospital in Prince George’s County, another brand new medical facility also has started construction in Glenarden. Children’s National Health System is building a new 60,000 foot pediatric facility to help serve its 24,000 Prince George’s County patients. Its health care services include infusions, hematology sports medicine, orthopedics, genetics, allergy, neurology, cardiology as well as MRI, rehabilitation services and outpatient surgery. When the facility opens, it will be located in the Woodmore Town Centre, just three miles from where the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center will be. While Children’s National System’s new facility will help to provide patients with adequate medical care within the county, the new facility also will create jobs and help to stimulate the local economy. Plans for the new facility have also sparked a proposed new pediatric dental surgery center and a $27 million post-acute-care facility within a mile of the hospital. The presence of a new University of Maryland Medical Center hospital and a new pediatric care hospital is also expected to prompt health care companies to expand operations and build new facilities and offices nearby in the county.
Children’s National has opened five other new facilities in the D.C./Baltimore region; community based facilities have also opened in Howard County, Annapolis, Ft. David, Anacostia and Friendship Heights. More facilities will be coming in the next few months in Frederick, Columbia Heights and Takoma Park.
The new state-of-the-art facility at Woodmore Towne Centre is expected to open to patients in 2020.
