A restaurant with Southern Italian cuisine and pizza that took over the building vacated by the struggling Bertucci’s chain is soon to open, it says. “We are just weeks away from opening Casadoro Ristorante & Bar, 2929 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, CT and are hiring for all positions,” the The DORO Restaurant Group posted on its new Facebook page for the eatery. DORO operates its popular DORO Marketplace European-style cafe and bakery in West Hartford , Wethersfield and Windsor Locks. But until now has focused its full-scale restaurant business in one market: West Hartford. It operates Treva, French-themed Avert and the Mediterranean-themed Zohara in the town’s center. DORO owner Dorjan Puka has said the new restaurant in Newington is planned as a larger, less formal variation on Treva, the upscale northern Italian dining spot it has run in West Hartford Center for more than a decade. The Newington restaurant, Casadoro Ristorante & Bar, will focus on southern Italian cuisine and pizza, Puka has said and it will have “very reasonable” prices — partly because the rent in Newington will be significantly lower than in West Hartford Center. The business also noted those interested can email resumes directly to [email protected]. The Newington location will be able three times the size of Treva, with seating for up to 300 indoors and on a spacious patio, Puka has said. DORO’s new restaurant will be at 2929 Berlin Turnpike, where Bertucci’s did business for about two decades before the chain abruptly filed for bankruptcy nearly a year ago. “It will be an Italian concept restaurant, but more southern Italian than Treva,” Puka has said. “There will be a (menu) section just for parmigiana, we’ve found a location in upstate New York for the best veal, all the pasta will be made in-house. The pizza will be a little like Neapolitan, but different.” At one point, Bertucci’s operated about a dozen locations across Connecticut, including spots in Southington, West Hartford, Shelton, Westport and Orange. It operated outlets in at least two major malls, the Shoppes at Buckland Hills in Manchester and the Brass Mill Center in Waterbury.
