The arrest report of a 68-year-old woman charged with stabbing to death a 73-year-old man at a Jacksonville senior living apartment provides more context into their relationship.

Robert Lee Tucker had a child with the woman and recently moved in with her at the Morris Manor complex for seniors and the mobility-impaired. His sons told investigators they weren’t aware of either to be violent or of any domestic violence issues. They said she is both bipolar and schizophrenic, according to the May 13 arrest report.

Carol Marie Carroll was smiling large in her booking photo, causing a lot of commenters on the Sheriff's Office Facebook post to question her mental state. The Times-Union under parent company Gannett does not publish mug shots unless someone is convicted or there is a compelling reason.

Carroll told investigators she had been struck but the arrest report said there were no obvious signs of injury. She remained in jail without bail two days later on a charge of second-degree murder. She is scheduled for a court hearing on June 4 and has been assigned to the Public Defender's Office, which has previously advised the Times-Union that it does not comment on pending cases.

Police were called the apartments at 9050 Norfolk Blvd. in the early morning hours of May 13 after Tucker was found bleeding from multiple stab wounds in the lobby, the Sheriff's Office said. Security video showed him coming out of a second-floor apartment, taking the elevator down and collapsing. Police went to the apartment and detained Carroll who was the only person inside.

The arrest report said some cleaning products were on the floor near the front door and a rag with blood on it. There was blood in the living room and bedroom and several cutlery pieces including knives on the floor and a knife with blood on it was in a purse.

Carroll’s statements to investigators were redacted in the report, but it said she changed her story during a second interview.

Tucker's sons said he came to Jacksonville in February to be closer to his children and grandchildren after an illness in the hospital and was staying with Carroll.
