MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Library cardholders in 18 parishes can visit Louisiana State Parks through the new Check Out Louisiana State Parks program. Launching on October 1, the program will allow library patrons to check out a day pass for any state park or historic site at no cost. In addition to the pass, patrons can check out Geaux Explore backpacks containing binoculars, a compass, a magnifying glass, Leave No Trace outdoor ethics cards, and guides to Louisiana birds, wildlife, trees and flowers. The program is offered to parishes throughout Louisiana including Jackson, Morehouse, Richland and Union Parish. “The only thing you need for the Check Out Louisiana State Parks program is a library card,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. “Louisiana is blessed with so much natural beauty, and this program is a great way to explore it all. We also have great public libraries around the state, and this is another reason for people to visit them. It’s a win-win.” A limited number of passes are available during the program’s pilot phase.
