Nextival is a new festival that will be held in Crownsville this July. The family-friendly food truck music festival promises to deliver an experience unlike any other!
Summer has at long last arrived and many are preparing for the Fourth of July, beach weekends and the numerous outdoor music, art, food and brew festivals. During the summer, the state of Maryland is host to dozens upon dozens of music festivals of all kinds, the majority of which are family-friendly affairs.
When: July 8, 2017
Where: Crownsville, MD
While residents and visitors to the state have plenty to choose from, most festivals fall into the same categories and offer the same or similar fun and experiences. Most of the weekend music and arts festivals that offer the same type of family friendly experience and entertainment such as the Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival and Cumberland’s Delfest cater well to families and partygoers, however, the new Nextival festival of Crownsville and the Annapolis area has given area residents a new and unique summer day festival option.
Food and Drinks
Nextival is a food truck music festival that brings together 50 food trucks, 25 bands and more. The food trucks will serve more than just grilled hotdogs, pizza slices and mass-produced beer. While adults can grab a Miller Lite as they enjoy the festivities, Flying Dog Brewery of Frederick’s Snake Dog and Dead Rise beers will be featured at this year’s event, in addition to Leinenkugel’s Grapefruit and Summer Shandys, Yuengling Summer Wheat, Heavy Seas’ Smooth Sail and TropiCannon and Jailbreak’s Redaction and Feed the Monkey.
Meanwhile, Linganore Wines, as well as three custom Sangrias, will also be offered along with Wildflower, Elderberry and Ruby Red Ciders produced by Charm City brewing company. Other offerings include Liquor (Jack Daniels, Captain Morgan, Herradura Tequila), Stan and Joe’s Grapefruit and Orange Crushes and Bloody Mary’s made with George’s Old Bay Bloody Mix.
As for the food truck vendors, festival goers will have lots of quality options to choose from such as the gourmet pizzas made by All Fired Up Grill Brick Oven Pizza. All Fired Up is a local food vendor, which has a transportable Brick Oven that allows event patrons to enjoy gourmet brick oven pizzas at outdoor parties, concerts and festivals. Other food trucks like D.C.’s Capmac will be serving unique items such as their Gluten free pastas and Barbeque Mac and Cheese, while seafood lovers can choose from Crabtown Curbs’ Crabcake, Fried Shrimp and other custom selections
Fun, Games and Music
The fun and entertainment at Nextival is also unique. Nextival will have two helicopters on hand providing helicopter rides to downtown Annapolis and back! If you or your young ones have a fear of flying, there also will be ten moon bounces setup as well as backyard games, 400 pounds of Legos and duplos, a kids’ entertainment pavilion and an area where kids can create their own melted crayon artwork.

The musical entertainment will be headlined by Boston Original Reggae and Funk Outfit The Elevators whose new album entitled “The Cornerstone” has reached No. 9 on the Billboard Reggae charts.

Also in the lineup are Annapolis’ own Pressing Strings who will play their brand of original Roots, Rock, Reggae, Blues and Folk. Mend the Hollow -- the solo project of Jimi Haha who is best known as the lead singer and guitarist of Jimmy’s Chicken Shack and Jarflys -- will also be playing a mix of American roots, rock, blues, folk and reggae, while the other 20+ local and regional bands will be bringing a mix of rock, alternative and feel good jams to keep the party going.
Baltimore’s “Rock Alternative” HFS 104.9 is presenting the festival. If you are not already familiar with HFS 104.9, tune in if you want to get a better idea of what type of music to expect at Nextival.
Between the food trucks, libations and musical entertainment, Nextival promises to be a really good time. The family friendly activities and entertainment should nicely round out the day’s fun, so that everyone can have a good time, whether you will have kids in tow or not.
Surprisingly, tickets are just $15 and kids 12 and under are free. General Admission does not include the helicopter rides, food and refreshments, but can be expected to be reasonably priced. If you are interested in the helicopter rides, sign up early as last year the ride tickets sold out. For tickets, location and more info, visit the
festival’s website.
