After the death of Debbie Kuehn, also known as the "Cookie Lady," the doors shut to the Santa Fe Cookie Company. Now, months later, her niece has reopened the business.

Debbie Kuehn, known as the "Cookie Lady," passed away in June after battling cancer. She owned and ran the Santa Fe Cookie Company in the Republic Plaza on the 16th Street Mall for nearly nine years. After her passing, Kuehn's niece Alexis McClean opened the shop for a single day in July in tribute to her aunt, giving fans one last hurrah and taste of their favorite goodies. But that wasn't the last hurrah ... On Monday, October 2, the Santa Fe Cookie Company once again opened its doors, all thanks to Alexis McClean. The announcement was made on the shop's Facebook page, and it got many fans buzzing with excitement. https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=1673076912724313&id=114064505292236
As she prepared for the grand reopening, McClean told Westword that she had seen people peering through the windows and banging on the doors. "It's really neat seeing people come in for the first time. There's surprise; there's excitement. People's faces really light up." "Debbie used to say that when people are trusted, they end up being trustworthy," said McClean. "It's part of what she wanted to put out there into the world." You can visit the Santa Fe Cookie Company from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
